Seniors Services division manages the Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s Long-Term Care Home, Riverview Gardens. The Home is committed to providing exceptional, residential long-term care services for approximately 320 residents, over the age of 18 in need of long-term care. The residents have access to a range of medical, personal, dietary and recreational services that the team strives to ensure the highest potential of quality of life at Riverview Gardens. As well, the division is a community liaison with eleven Municipality of Chatham-Kent Senior Centres and Council’s Senior Advisory Committee.

Position:  Registered Practical Nurse (RPN)

Region:  Chatham – Kent

Description:  The essential responsibilities for this Registered Practical Nurse position include:
•Perform a variety of routine nursing procedures such as distributing medication to residents, taking blood pressure, temperature and pulse, collecting blood and other specimens, preparing residents for tests and surgery, and changing residents' dressings
•Assist registered nurses with such procedures as respiratory therapy and intravenous therapy
•Provide basic physical and supportive nursing care for residents of all ages, in connection with other members of the health care team (registered nurses, psychiatric nurses, and doctors)
•Monitor residents' progress, report changes in residents' condition and environment, and confer with other health care professionals about the plans for resident care
•Ensure consistency in approach and optimum benefit for the residents by assessing, and identifying resident goals, planning, implementing, and evaluating the resident's progress
•Follow all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
•Play an integral role in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of residents under their care
•Protect own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, and attending all relevant in-services regarding occupational health and safety
•Provide planned resident-oriented, goal-directed nursing care in accordance with the provincial standards of care
The essential qualifications for this RPN position include:
•Possess a secondary school graduation diploma or equivalent education (i.e. GED certificate)
•Graduate of a Registered Practical Nurse or Practical Nurse program
•Previous experience as a Registered Practical Nurse or Practical Nurse preferred
•Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as an RPN
•Possess current Standard Level First Aid and Level C CPR certifications
•Health Care Provider (C) Certificate (formerly Cardiac Life Support Certificate) required
•Experience with RAI-MDS charting
•Familiar with PCC (PointClickCare)
•Excellent team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills
•Training in appropriate use of restraints and current best practices in least restraint policy
•Possess computer keyboarding skills
•Under the Long Term Care Homes Act, all employees are required to provide evidence of, or submit to, a clear 2-step TB skin test (TB skin tests will be completed the first day of orientation)
•Proof of immunizations must be received upon completion of the New Hire Orientation (if the successful candidate) as per Public Health Unit recommendations and Riverview Gardens requirements
•The employer may request a "Physical Task Analysis"
•All new employees will be required to complete their Health & Safety and other on-line mandatory training on or before their first day of employment; other training (including Health & Safety policies) may be required

Other qualifications:
•Experience in the following areas an asset:
o RPN work experience or student placement experience in a setting for care of the elderly
o RPN work experience, or student placement experience, in a long term care home (Long Term Care Homes in Chatham-Kent include: Blenheim Community Village, Copper Terrace, Fairfield Park, Meadow Park Nursing Home, Riverview Gardens, Tilbury Manor Nursing Home, and The Village, Ridgetown)
o Experience directing staff an asset
o Experience with restorative care
o Experience participating in a workplace committee
o Supervisory experience, especially in a healthcare environment

Work Environment:
This position will work indoors.

Police check requirements
•Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Vulnerable Sector Police Information Search (criminal reference check) prior to commencement of employment
•As per the Long-Term Care Homes Act, all staff members shall promptly provide the employer with a signed declaration disclosing new charges, convictions, orders and restraining orders, consistent with Ontario Regulation 79/10 made under the Long-Term Care Homes Act, with respect to the period since the date the person’s last criminal reference check under subsection (2) was conducted

Hours of Work:
•There are no guaranteed hours for this position
•This position works weekday and weekend hours for the days, afternoons and midnights shifts, which may include four hour shifts and statutory holidays
•Candidate must be able to accept on short notice call-in hours for days, afternoons and midnights shifts (both weekday and weekend), which may include four hour shifts and statutory holidays

This permanent casual call-in position has an hourly wage range of hourly wage range of $24.51 to $28.84, as per the UNIFOR (RVG) (2015 - 2018) collective agreement, plus 15% in lieu of benefits following the successful completion of a probationary period and 4% vacation pay.

Salary:  $24.51 to $28.84 per hour

Terms of Employment:  Casual
