Seniors Services division manages the Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s Long-Term Care Home, Riverview Gardens. The Home is committed to providing exceptional, residential long-term care services for approximately 320 residents, over the age of 18 in need of long-term care. The residents have access to a range of medical, personal, dietary and recreational services that the team strives to ensure the highest potential of quality of life at Riverview Gardens. As well, the division is a community liaison with eleven Municipality of Chatham-Kent Senior Centres and Council’s Senior Advisory Committee.

Position:  Registered Nurse (RN)

Region:  Chatham – Kent

Description:  The essential responsibilities for this Registered Nurse position include:
•Provide nursing care in accordance with the administrative policies, medical director’s orders, established standards and recognized nursing principles; this care is provided on a shift basis as scheduled in order to ensure that residents of the Home have nursing care 24 hours per day, seven days per week
•Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by a physician or according to established policies and protocols
•Complete an individualized plan of care for each resident
•Assess resident's health status on an ongoing basis and institutes appropriate care measures
•Monitor, assess, address, document and report symptoms and changes in residents' conditions
•Operate or monitor medical apparatus or equipment
•Follow all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
•Coordinate skin and wound care programs according to MOH Long Term Care standards and Services for Seniors best practice policies and procedures
•Protect own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, and attending all relevant in-services regarding occupational health and safety

Other responsibilities:
•May supervise registered practical nurses and other nursing staff

The essential qualifications for this Registered Nurse position include:
•Candidates must have graduated from a Nurse diploma program or a BScN degree program
•Current registration the with College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as an RN
•Completion of a post-diploma geriatric program preferred
•Previous general registered nursing experience required
•Experience with RAI-MDS charting
•Familiar with PCC (PointClickCare)
•Computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office (or similar software program)
•Applies knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe, independent and inter-disciplinary practice by meeting nursing practice standards as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and other related professional associations
•Training in appropriate use of restraints and current best practices in least restraint policy
•Integrates reflection, critical thinking, education and relevant practical experience in problem solving
•Under the Long Term Care Homes Act, all employees are required to provide evidence of, or submit to, a clear 2-step TB skin test (TB skin tests will be completed the first day of orientation)
•Proof of immunizations must be received upon completion of the New Hire Orientation (if the successful candidate) as per Public Health Unit recommendations and Riverview Gardens requirements
•The employer may request a "Physical Task Analysis"
•All new employees will be required to complete their Health & Safety and other on-line mandatory training on or before their first day of employment; other training (including Health & Safety policies) may be required

Other qualifications:
•Experience in the following areas an asset:
oRN work experience, or student placement experience, in a long term care home (Long Term Care Homes in Chatham-Kent include: Blenheim Community Village, Copper Terrace, Fairfield Park, Meadow Park Nursing Home, Riverview Gardens, Tilbury Manor Nursing Home, and The Village, Ridgetown)
oAdditional experience in geriatric, rehabilitation or psychiatric nursing
oExperience with restorative care
oSupervising staff, especially in a healthcare environment
oExperience participating in a workplace committee
•Possess current Standard Level First Aid and Level C CPR certifications an asset
•Healthcare Provider (C) Certificate (formerly Cardiac Life Support Certificate) an asset

Work Environment:
This position will work indoors.

Police check requirements
•Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Vulnerable Sector Police Information Search (criminal reference check) prior to commencement of employment
•As per the Long-Term Care Homes Act, all staff members shall promptly provide the employer with a signed declaration disclosing new charges, convictions, orders and restraining orders, consistent with Ontario Regulation 79/10 made under the Long-Term Care Homes Act, with respect to the period since the date the person’s last criminal reference check under subsection (2) was conducted

Hours of Work:
• There are no guaranteed hours for this position
• This position works weekday and weekend hours for the days, afternoons and midnights shifts, which may include four hour shifts and statutory holidays
• Candidate must be able to accept on short notice call-in hours for days, afternoons and midnights shifts (both weekday and weekend), which may include four hour shifts and statutory holidays

Compensation:
This permanent casual call-in position has an hourly wage range of hourly wage range of $31.02 to $44.84, as per the ONA (RVG) (2016) collective agreement, plus 15% in lieu of benefits following the successful completion of a probationary period and 4% vacation pay.


Salary:  $31.02 to $44.84 per hour

Terms of Employment:  Casual
